Similie Poem

WALT : Understand the structure of a simile poem and write our own about a member of our family or someone we find inspirational.
My Mum

My Mum is as bright as a light, you won’t miss her in a crowd.

She works hard for her family, just like a bee.

She’s protective like a lion and keeps me and my siblings safe.

She is intelligent, like Einstein and smart in many ways.

My Mum makes delicious dinners and cooks like a chef.

She coaches basketball like a pro, and is great at teaching us new skills.

Water fun afternoon

On the Slip & Slide I slid down quickly on the slippery soapy tarpaulin, the bumps in                                                                   the mat burned against my skin.

I climbed down the ladder into the freezing cold pool I ducked under and got blasted by three water guns at the same time.

Tree Of Life - Narrative Writing

 TREE OF LIFE :

As I planted the tree into the rough damp ground the earth shook I felt a high pitched tone travel through my ears as I slowly got to my feet.

Suddenly I fell out of my hallucination and felt the slippery moss planted beneath me. I felt ice cold wind blowing across my face as I stood up to catch my balance standing on the sharp pointed rocks. I imagined how I got here white light beamed into my eyes as I suddenly remembered the tree was it real or was it simply just a figure of my imagination.

I sat on a split tree stump to catch my breath. I knew it was inevitable that the tree would fall into the wrong hands if I didn't retrieve it. Was it worth searching for something I didn't know was real.

If it was, I needed to find it so I decided to start my search. After hours of searching my legs ached, my arms were heavy and the tree was nowhere to be seen. Right when I was giving up I tripped over a rock and found myself lying on the ground.

That's when in the corner of my eye I saw the tree. I leapt to my feet and ran to it I picked it up I felt rushing water run down my hands I could feel the thin roots in between my fingers I planted the tree into the ground just like in my hallucination, then as I felt the sharp tone travel through my ears I finally woke up from my dream.

Blake V.R

WALT: know what happens when we don’t look after our oceans.

On Tuesday we had a session with Blake V.R.When Alice and Grace arrived they taught us new things about the ocean , pollution and marine animals using Virtual reality. They showed us the difference between a marine reserve and an unprotected area. With V.R goggles we were able to see the marine reserve was full of sea creatures and sea vegetation like kelp and seaweed, whereas the unprotected areas were polluted and had algae and only small schools of bait fish.

One of my favourite parts was flying over the Three Kings Islands and travelling underwater to see short tail stingrays and sharks.
Grace and Alice showed us different ways pollution travels to the ocean pollution travels through waterways and drains and can come from oil spills from boats or cars. In our groups we had to come up with a way to reduce pollution and to prevent over fishing. My group said we could use reusable or recycled items and put stricter limits on fishing.

Tane & the three kete of knowledge retelling

Tane wanted to get the three kete before Whiro. He knew Whiro would not use them for good.Tane began by climbing the whirlwinds that his brother Tawhirimatea created. He climbed to the second overworld then onto the third. Whiro, his evil brother, was following him because he wanted to get to the three kete before him. Whiro sent his followers the owls, bats, mosquitos and sandflies to attack Tane. Rehua gave Tane the three kete of knowledge.Tane was climbing down with the kete when he met with Whiro in the ninth overworld there was a huge battle. Tane was beaten again but this time the knowledge in the kete made him stronger.Tane banished Whiro to the underworld and his friends the owls, bats, mosquitoes and sandflies came to earth where they are still pests today.
